The tank and I are collectors in every game we play and one thing we love to collect in Warcraft are there mounts. Recently we’ve gotten back into our daily routine of running certain 5 mans in the hopes of specific mounts we want to add to our collection.
Also as a heads up to some folks who may have forgotten in Mists of Pandaria you won’t be able to fly in the new zones till you reach level 90, so that means ground mounts will be making a comeback!
I was excited that we could fly everywhere in Cataclysm, however I had all these awesome land mounts that I never got to use anymore. I was a little disappointed since I put so much time into farming them and I couldn’t show them off as I ran around to save Azeroth. So I’m very happy that I’ll be able to use them again while leveling!
Currently the tank and I have a pattern we follow for the mounts we are farming. He brings his Death Knight and he hits Utgarde Pinnacle first in Northrend for the Reins of the Blue Proto-Drake, while I do my dailys in Brunnhildar Village in Storm Peaks for my White Polar Bear mount (that I finally got this week, yay!).
Then we head to Outlands to hit up Sethekk Halls for the Reins of the Raven Lord and then a quick portal jump to the Isle of Conquest to run Magisters’ Terrace for the Swift White Hawkstrider. After that we take the taxi to Light’s Hope Chapel and run the epic Stratholme for the Deathcharger’s Reins.
The luck on the mount drops vary and I’ve seen people get some of the mounts on their 2nd run and then there are others, like my tank that had to run Stratholme over 100 times to get one of his favorite mounts on his Paladin. Keep in mind that Stratholme can be reset after every run, where the other heroic dungeons can only be completed once a day.
Please keep in mind that all of these dungeons I mentioned except Stratholme have to be on heroic mode and some may have reputation levels attached to them. If you haven’t been to Stratholme in a while, be sure to enjoy the changes at the end of the dungeon. I will say that Strat is still annoying to farm at level 85 because you still aggro random npcs as you walk by. To do the daily in Brunnhildar Village you will need to do the quests to unlock that area (K3 in Storm Peaks has the main intro quest), and then do a few quests for the ladies up there. Once you have completed the intro quests you will unlock the daily.
Farming these places can also earn you reputation, a title, a pet and even an orb that will transform the user into a Blood Elf!
These are just some of the places you can farm mounts, there are many more places in the game that drop mounts. For a full list of all of the mounts available in Warcraft and for a neat way of tracking what you have you can visit Warcraft Mounts at www.warcraftmounts.com.
Do you have tons of mounts already and can’t pick which one to ride? Here’s a macro a few friends of mine have made that gives them a random mount every time they click it!
/dismount [mounted]
/castrandom Black War Raptor, Forsaken Warhorse, Swift Zhevra, Swift White Hawkstrider, Argent Charger, White Polar Bear, Tan Riding Camel, Fossilized Raptor, Raven Lord, Spectral Wolf, Winged Guardian
Just add in the name of the mount you want included and add a comma to add more!
So let’s talk! What are some of the mounts you are farming? What is/was your favorite grind to get that special mount of yours? What land mount will you be sporting in the new expansion?
