The Elementalist Experience

August 28, 2012

After spending some more time in Guild Wars 2 I once again switched my “main” and I”m really happy with her.  I went with an Elementalist and I adore how I feel like I bring a full arsenal to the party.  She can pretty much do anything I want her to do and I love that!

One thing I like is that Elementalists quickly adapt to new threats by using the power of the elements as needed. When Elementalists attune to any of the four elements, it changes the abilities they can use accordingly.  You get Fire, Water, Air and Earth. You can see the attunements in the screenshot below above the right side of the action bar.

Fire – Attuning to fire, you gain heavy damage and burning abilities.

Water – Attuning to water, you gain superior support and healing abilities.

Air – Attuning to air, you gain heavy damage and control abilities.

Earth – Attuning to earth, you gain superior damage over time and defensive abilities.

You can switch between these elements easily during battle so you have a huge assortment of spells at your disposal.  However, Elementalists can not switch weapons like other classes can, I assume this is because we can switch between the elements.  As a side note I believe the only other profession that can’t switch weapons is the Engineer.

A few things to keep in mind is that your abilities change with weapons and weapon combination so use as many weapons as you can, open up all the abilities you can have.  If you want to check to see if you’ve unlocked all the abilities for the weapons you have used, open your Hero menu and click on weapon skills icon.

Also as you unlock skill points you can “buy” slot skills that you can place and rotate out on the left side of the action bar.  So you can have your normal 5 abilities with your weapons and then the other skill points you purchased on the other side.  You unlock them at different levels however, and don’t get all of them at once.  You unlock the second slot at level 10.  You can switch these abilities around with others you “purchased” however you do have to be out of combat. You can also see these on your Hero menu.

So far I’m only a level 10 but I have to say playing an Elementalist is very fun and will add a lot of variety to your life! If you play an Elementalist what do you like most? What don’t you like?
