Guild Wars 2: My Current Elementalist Build

April 8, 2013

Guild Wars 2 Elementalist Gear

So I dinged 30 a few nights ago in Guild Wars 2 and while I have found my weapons of choice, I hadn’t really found my traits.  However, this changed when I came across a post on the Guild Wars 2 forums.

Before I wasn’t really sure about traits but now I’m really enjoying them.  I am doing a full fire and air build at the moment, which means that I’m putting, at this point, a full 10 points in both trait lines, and with the extra ones till I reach level 40 I’m putting them in earth just for the toughness.  Once again I am using the scepter and focus as my weapons.

For the healing spell I am using Signet of Restoration, which grants health every time you cast a spell.

For my utility spells I am using Signet of Fire, which improves my critical chance and will burn my foe when I activate it. Next I picked up Signet of Air which increases movement speed and will blind my target and nearby foes when activated. Lastly I picked up Signet of Earth which improves my toughness and immobilizes my foe when activated.

This build focuses on Fire Magic, Air Magic and Earth Magic so I can focus on increasing the power, precision, condition duration and critical damage. Since this build is built around this premise these trait lines gives me the best boost to the stats I need.

In the Fire Magic trait line first pick up Ember’s Might which makes you deal 5% extra damage to burning foes. Next pick up Burning Precision which gives you a 30% chance to cause burning on a critical hit. Last pick up Pyromancer’s Puissance which adds might for 5 seconds every time you cast a fire spell.

In the Air Magic trait line first pick up Bolt to the Heart which deals 20% more damage to enemies with less than 25% health. Next pick up Air Training which gives you 10% increased damage when you are attuned to air. Last pick up Aeromancer’s Alacrity which makes your air weapon skills recharge 20% faster.

At this point being a level 34 I only have Ember’s Might and Bolt to the Heart but in the future I plan to go into the others.  When I get there I plan on going into the Earth Magic trait line and picking up Signet Mastery which will recharge my signets 20% faster.

The play style is very fun and you have to work very fast.  Activate your signet of fire and use your fire rotation, then switch to air, activate your air signet and go through your air rotation.  When going through your fire rotation you are going to be building up your might increasing your damage. After that you can switch to your Air Attunement. Due to the traits that are chosen your air spells also have the chance to cause burning to your enemies. This is very beneficial since a lot of the skills are channeled and will be doing a lot of hits that build up damage. Don’t forget to use your signets as often as possible. After choosing the earth magic trait they will now recharge 20% faster so make sure you take full advantage of them.

I have to say this is a really fun play style so far for me and I plan on going this route until I get bored. Again I can’t take credit for this idea but so far it is extremely fun and I am having a blast! <3

Guild Wars 2: Weapon of Choice for Your Elementalist

March 26, 2013

Guild Wars 2 Elementalist

So after a huge break the tank, our friend and myself have found our way back to Guild Wars 2. My opinion on it is way different than when I first played it, however that is another post.  I will say we are all having a blast and I’m back on my Elementalist owning things right and left.  One of the things that I couldn’t grasp was what weapon I should be using.  This decision effects how your character plays, not only solo but in group play as well.  You can switch your roles around based upon your weapons and this is amazing!

For an Elementalist you can equip a few different items:

Main Hand:
Dagger: Limited range, requires melee.  Daggers are great weapons for soloists to get up close and personal and annihilate them with your speed and damage.
Scepter: These provide you with sustainable medium-range damage options and the ability to lay down some nasty conditions.  A solid main-hand choice, especially for group work.  They allow you to stay out of your enemy’s reach and control the fight on your terms.  Pair these with a dagger in the off hand for more offensive attacks or a focus on defensive/damage-mitigation abilities.
Staves (a two handed weapon): This two-handed weapon provides long-range attacks.  A number of area-of-effect damage spells and healing abilities.  The condition damage isn’t bad as well.  Staves are at their best when you are in a group.  Your character can hit a number of targets at once while staying safely away from combat.  Also, a quick switch to water adds some nice healing to the party.

Off Hand:
Dagger: Using a dagger in your off hand gives you even more damage attacks and crowd-control abilities.  Many of these have area-of effect damage, letting you do a lot of damage to a lot of enemies.
Focus: They are off-hand weapons that add to your survivability.  A lot of damage mitigation is here in addition to damage output.  This works well with both main-hand weapons: daggers and scepters.  Daggers rely on close-range attacks, and scepter users need something to hit enemies that close in on them.

Guild Wars 2 Elementalist

Since I work in a party with a Guardian (made more for tanking) and a Necromancer I use a Scepter in my main hand and a Focus in the other.  This gives me some nice damage but if I do grab the attention of a nasty guy I have some mitigation.  I do always have a Stave on hand in case we do attempt some major things so I can have more group heals.

I have to say I’m enjoying the ability to be anything and everything in this game.  I’ll try to do some more information on the Elementalist.  Let me know what weapons you guys like and why! <3

Mini-Post: 5m 25m Ulduar: Algalon

March 12, 2013

So I recorded our fun times in Ulduar last night and I’ll be releasing them on YouTube soon.  I already uploaded one for Algalon you can see it below!

Just to do a quick run down of all who was involved:

Blood DK in dps gear item level: 481

Windwalker Monk item level: 485

Fury Warrior item level: 493

Beast Mastery Hunter item level: 460

Disc Priest item level: 481

As you can see none of us is super geared so just think of what you can do if you have even better gear!  This video was just to show you that it is possible and how easy it is.  So if you have enough friends to form a 5m you can get into Ulduar and farm yourself a legendary, or t-mog gear, achievements, etc…so get going!

Mini Post: Skyrim Dragonborn NPCs Don’t Like Me

February 25, 2013

Skyrim Lydia Armor Bug

Tonight I logged into Skyrim to work on crafting and the Dragonborn quest line and I was delayed for a while.  Apparently for some reason the NPCs, specifically Frea, turned hostile towards me. It can be a known glitch for some people.  I freaked out worried that it would be an issue for me and that I wouldn’t be able to progress in the new DLC.

However I found a solution for myself that might help the few others that encounter this problem.  I apparently logged off inside someone’s house and when I loaded the game and left the house they took me to be a thief since it was at night and the house was locked up.  So I loaded my game from within the house and waited the time out to about 10 AM the next day and walked out and was not attacked anymore.

Other people have said that they stole something in the town and paid the bounty and things were fine. I’m not sure if that helps but what I did above helped me out. I just wanted to do a mini post on this as there was not a lot of information out there about possible solutions.  If this happens to you please consider how you might have broken the basic “laws” of Skyrim and try not to do it and it should work.

Hope this helps! Also, the picture above is of Lydia’s armor freaking out on me. lol <3

RPG Alert! 3 Japanese Titles Coming to the PS3

February 22, 2013

So guys I’m excited to share with you that NIS (Nippon Ichi Software) is bringing 3 Japanese RPGs to America and Europe.  Rejoice RPG lovers! I’m so excited about this and I wanted to give you a heads up on what would be heading our way!

The first one announced is Disgaea Dimensions 2: A Brighter Darkness. Disgaea Dimensions 2 launches in about a month in Japan, and will come out in America this fall. Dimensions 2 is rumored to be a sequel to the PlayStation 2 strategy-RPG Disgaea: Hour of Darkness.

NIS has stated that Disgaea Dimensions 2 is intended to celebrate both the 20th anniversary of the company and the 10th anniversary of its most famous franchise. They have stated that DLC will be released to keep the game new to players following its launch later this year.

Next up is Time and Eternity, known as TokiTowa or Toki to Towa in Japan.  TokiTowa launched in Japan late last year and is set for a Summer 2013 release in the US and Europe.

Time and Eternity is interesting because it’s the “first HD animation RPG”, meaning that all characters are drawn using cel animation and are not actual 3D models. The game takes place in a locale known as Kamza, with a nameless male character about to marry the princess of his kingdom, Toki, as the tale begins. However, Toki has an alter-ego – Towa – and this is the center of the game’s plot.

Lastly, The Guided Fate Paradox, known as KamiPara in Japan. The Guided Fate Paradox is set to come to the PlayStation 3 in the Fall of 2013 in the west. The Guided Fate Paradox is described as a rogue-like RPG, so if you want a good time sink this might be what you are looking for! I personally hope a soundtrack might be released as well just by the great music in the trailer!

NIS developed one of my favorite game series, the Hyperdimension Neptunia series, so I’m really excited to see them bringing more games to the US! I can’t wait!  Which one of these games are you guys looking forward to the most?
